Finding Your Spiritual Being
Deb Entwistle May 1st, 2011
It is said that we are spiritual beings having a human experience. In 2009, I attended a program that helps one to find and release that spiritual being inside us. While speaking with the Director of the program, I asked the question, why if we are really spiritual beings, who know God and enjoy all that must be truly awesome living such an experience, why oh why would we want to become human and endure all the pain and troubles of the human experience? The reply I got was really unexpected he replied, wouldn’t you be bored if everything was so perfect, if there was no challenge, nothing left to interest you. Like the rich and famous who are so bored with life because they have everything that in order to feel alive and challenged they so stupid things and behave badly. When we leave this spiritual plain and enter the realm of human existence we some how forget that we are spirits. We get pulled down with this human existence, with the struggle to survive, with the struggle to feel joy every day, with the struggle to know who we truly are. Some days this struggle is so great that it feels like the weight of the entire world is sitting on your shoulders alone. Imagine how awesome it would be, what joy, what freedom!
This freedom is exactly what I experienced during my time in California. I went there not having the slightest clue as to what was going to happen to me, only knowing that other people had describes their experience as awesome. They would say I feel so free, I am not angry any more. I am not so confused anymore, I feel joy every day, I don’t let things get to me and pull me down and best of all I have been given tools to help me deal with the challenges of life that they don’t pull me down any more. I thought these people sounded a little crazy when I heard them speak. I thught no one could be that happy they must be on some great drug or they must be hypnotized to believe thins. I have been searching all my life for this and yet it has always been so elusive. Yes, there are times when I feel this joy, this peace, times when I can feel that spirit in me lifting me up just ever so slightly. I usually experience this when we do our time of meditation and prayer at Sunday worship, for a short time I feel at peace, I feel joy, I feel closer to God, but the experience is so short lived, so fleeting and yet you get just enough to make you want more.
Have you ever thought of your spirit as being separate from your human body? I know it is a strange question, but think about it, we believe that we have souls and that when we die they leave our bodies and go to be with God. We believe that our souls live on and in some religions they believe that our souls are born over and over again. So why would it not be possible for our soul or spirit to be a separate entity from our bodies?
Scientists say that when we dream at night our spirits are actually leaving our bodies. We have all heard of near death experiences, people who experienced this tell of leaving their bodies sometimes going to places so beautiful they do not wish to return. Others talk of watching their bodies from above, seeing what is happening as they are being worked on by paramedics and not having any fear and yet when they return they remember everything they saw happening to them. How is this possible unless our spirits are truly separate from the human form they inhabit?
If we are indeed spirits. Where do we come from? Why do we even exist? For thousand of years man has asked these same questions and has been trying to find “complete spiritual freedom from this endless cycle of birth and death, to have personal immortality containing full awareness, memory and ability as a spirit independent of the flesh.” A few have been able to reach this state for short periods of time and even fewer have been able to reach it and stay there. Most of us though go through life knowing that here must be more but finding the answers elusive. We seek through our religious beliefs to come closer to God and each other as spiritual beings. Contained in these beliefs is a clue to becoming a spiritual being, when we talk about forgiveness and taking personal responsibility but we do not have an action plan to follow through with.
The program I went to explained to me that we as human beings have many experiences that are frightening and painful. These experiences remain in our minds like pictures on a reel of film and when something new in our lives happens it reminds us of the previous experience it brings the past experience back like brand new. These bad and painful experiences build up in our minds causing us to continually react and never be free to feel the spirit within us. I spent nine days working with a personal guide, who helped me to relive these experiences and then to release them so that I wan to continually reacting to situations. They also worked with me on action plans about how to handle situations in my life that gave me the confidence that I could be in control of my life not be continually being pulled down by others. Lastly they worked with me physically releasing blocks in my energy centers, helping me to heal from physical problems that have plagued me most of my life. Near the end of my nine days there I was actually starting to feel my spirit life out of my body and I would have to sit quietly for a few minutes and pull it back in! Can you imagine such an experience! By the last day I was experiencing myself as a spirit floating as a free spirit with such joy and happiness you could not imagine. I walked down the street looking at my surroundings with a new clarity and a new appreciation. I said hi to complete stranger and I couldn’t stop telling everyone how awesome I felt. Of course when I returned to the real world, I was not able to sustain this feeling but now I know it exists and I want more!
My quest for more over the last two years has led me to two new spiritual experiences. The first was quite unexpected, it happened during a labyrinth workshop. The workshop utilized two different labyrinths which we walked with different intentions. Boy, was I surprised at how quickly and easily I found that same spiritual release I had worked so hard to attain in California. I definitely want to find and walk more labyrinths! Labyrinths are based on ancient practices and the configuration of the labyrinth is based on elaborate and precise mathematical calculations. As you walk from the outside to the center many people begin to experience many different things, for some it is a shift in understanding an emotional feeling that overcomes them or some type of bodily sensation. The center of the labyrinth contains great energy.
My latest search into the spiritual dimension has been the works of Esther and Jerry Hicks with the teachings of Abraham, a spiritual guide from another dimension. I introduced you to these teachings a few weeks ago with guided meditation. Since then I have been practicing these meditations daily as well as listening to a CD called Getting Into The Vortex. The vortex is a place that brings you back into connection with your spiritual source. It is necessary to reconnect your spiritual source so that you do not become overwhelmed with the human experience. We need to reconnect with the source energy in order to achieve expansion of the spirit. Abraham tells us that we come into the human experience in order to achieve continual expansion of the spirit and move us forward as a collective spiritual entity. I find the more I practice the meditations and listen to the simple explanations of how the universe works, I am getting happier and happier.
God wants us to be joyful and anything I can do to bring me closer to that joy is a great thing. I will continue my quest and try to keep an open mind when new possibilities are presented to me, there are after all many paths to the same truth.
My prayer is that you too may be able to find this place of joy, even for short periods of time, to reconnect with the God of Source of all there is. May you fly free!
